The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul. No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before.

Life Lessons From Surface Design

I recently participated in a free surface design workshop offered by Bonnie Christine. I think it was definitely worth my while. Mainly for the business content, but she also gave some good life lessons. Here are a few of them in my own words.

To get past fear, focus on your reasons. The scaries are much less powerful when contrasted with why what you are doing is so important.

Don’t worry that you are improving too slowly. The fact that you are progressing is much more important than the rate at which you do so.

Most big things require only about 10 seconds of courage – enough time to get started. Once you’ve started something, it very often isn’t as bad as you feared, and it’s pretty easy to continue.

She also talked one day about how generally speaking, people want to create. Her words on this topic reminded me of some remarks made by Dieter F. Uchtdorf in 2008. The featured image with this post comes from that speech, which I will link to here.
