New Year’s Resolutions

I don’t know if you’ve started thinking about New Year’s resolutions yet. I usually haven’t at this point of the year. But to be honest, for the past few years I haven’t thought about them much at all. Still, as we get farther into December, people are probably going to be thinking seriously on the topic.

One of the reasons I stopped putting much thought into resolutions is because of the terrible reputation they have. You’ve heard all the jokes about people resolving to get in shape, buying a gym membership, and never going again after January. And the thought of setting a goal that was doomed to failure didn’t sit well with me. Not that I exactly believed that all resolutions were quickly broken, or even more than goals set at other times throughout the year. Yet…

So over the years, I drifted away from setting resolutions. But I have made my share in the past, back when friends and parents and teachers would bring it up to me. The year I remember doing the best was the year that I made a goal to make a habit of writing in my journal daily. And at the end of that year, I was writing something about my day every night.

So my piece of advice to anybody trying to choose a resolution is to make it something that won’t be broken the first time you slip up. Say your goal is to go to the gym five times every week all year. You won’t last past the first week with three ultra-busy days. But with a goal to build a habit of regular gym attendance, nothing’s broken. You can still get there by the end of the year.

Anyway. I’ve been designing yoga gear over on Zazzle, putting exercise and resolutions on my mind. So, just in case you’re reading this because you plan to exercise more in the coming year, I’ll link to my collection. And another one of journals, since I also mentioned that old resolution of mine. I will also be making Pinterest boards for both of those  They will include pins for inspiration, tips, and things not available from me and/or not available on Zazzle. I am a Zazzle affiliate, which means that if you follow those links and buy anything, even if it’s not from me, I will receive a percentage from that sale.

And remember, don’t give up the first time you miss a day. Keep on going and build that habit.
